Our mission is to create space for art and research to engage the lived experiences, memories, and cultural traces of Northeast Asia.

Northeast Asia Art Archive (NAAA) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting and advancing artistic and cultural practices rooted in and engaging in Northeast Asia. Grounded in art and research, we value the lives, memories, and cultural traces that shape the region, and the ways these are carried, transformed, and reinterpreted over time.

At the core of our work is a commitment to contextualized cultural inquiry. Artistic and cultural practices are approached as embedded within lived experience, regional histories, and social relationships. We work to create space for ideas, practices, and knowledge to be revisited, re-examined, and developed across time.

We operate as a community of knowledge, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds whose work and interests engage with the cultural complexity of Northeast Asia. Through research-driven programs, publications, a developing collection, and situated events, we connect regional and borderland perspectives with broader international conversations.

Positioned across Northeast Asia and the United States, our work engages regions shaped by migration and the movement of lives, where memories and cultural traces travel, settle, and take new form. By supporting collaborative exchange and continuity of inquiry, our work contributes to the understanding and ongoing vitality of the region’s artistic and cultural landscape, while enabling new ideas and forms of practice to emerge in dialogue with lived memory and shared experience.

Our Values

We believe in the power of community as a shared space for learning, exchange, and collective growth. By bridging people across disciplines and cultures, we cultivate spaces of mutual recognition and sustained exchange.

Our work is shaped by long-term vision and sustainability. We see persistent effort not only as a mode of work, but as a way of learning. Authority is built through practice, grounded in rigor, transparency, and responsive support. Guided by trust, attentiveness, and collaboration, we engage the complexity and diversity of Northeast Asia with generosity and accountability. Equity and representation guide our work toward sustained, accessible impact.
