Yining He is a researcher and curator of visual arts based in China. She is the founder of the independent publications Floating Island and Starlight. She has contributed to the writing, editing, and translation of over twenty publications, including The Routledge Companion to Photography, Representation, and Social Justice (2022), The Abode of Anamnesis (2021), and the Ports and Images series (2017, 2019, 2022). Yining has curated more than 50 exhibitions across Asia and Europe. Her recent curatorial projects include “DBN Prelude: Decolonial Gaze” (Goethe-Institut China, 2025) and “Photographic Geomancy” (Guangdong Times Museum, 2024). She has also served as a co-curator for major international photography festivals, including the Guangzhou Image Triennial 2025, the 8th Singapore International Photography Festival (2022), and the 3rd Beijing International Photography Biennial (2018). Yining holds a Master’s degree from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, and is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for Contemporary Visual Arts Asia, Birmingham City University, UK.
