Yufeng Zhao (b. 1998, Harbin) is a media artist and technologist based in Cambridge, MA, and a graduate research assistant at MIT Media Labs Future Sketches group, where he is an M.S. candidate in Media Arts and Sciences. His work builds searchable archives and interactive experiences from overlooked material. all text in nyc runs OCR on seventeen years of Google Street View imagery, making every visible word on New York Citys streets searchable. Banner Depot 2000 collects over 22,000 early web banner ads from Chinese and English websites; the dataset is published in the Journal of Open Humanities Data. Recently his work has turned toward physical sites, combining 3D scanning and oral history to document disappearing architectural remains and the lives embedded in them, with current projects in Northeast China and Shanghai. He is a member of the Nomadic Department of the Interior (NDOI), whose film Caches from the Landscape has shown at Centre des arts actuels SKOL (Montréal) and Beiqiu Museum of Contemporary Art (Nanjing).
