de/re-territorialization: An Initial Exploration of Northeast Asia is the concluding publication of the Changbai Spring 2025 research residency project. Through fieldworks, art commissions, and seminars, the project explored the ecological environment of Changbai Mountain; the history of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture; the architectural heritage of Changchun, Shenyang, and Dandong; the literature, visual art, and soundscape of Northeast China; and the possibilities of building a multidisciplinary academic community for regional and national exchange within the transnational cultural geographic unit of Northeast Asia. This publication will serve as an archival record of the project and provide in-depth research on these topics through commissioned new writing. The book, with “initial exploration” in title, is the first publication focused on the Northeast Asia study initiated by Northeast Asian Art Archive and will be released inconjunction with the 2026 exhibition of the same title in New York. Thereafter, the kindred book will be published annually based on the theme of each year’s Changbai Spring research residency projects.
